THINGLINK PROJECT

Recently, the music in the I Pad class did two projects called the rockstar projects. In these projects, our class worked only on the drums. First we picked a regular drum set to use for the first projects, I chose the classic studio kit. Then Miss Chase showed us that if we put two fingers down on the same drum or instrument, it would make a steady beat or rhythm. We already knew how to merge record, so I just recorded one thing after another on top of each other. The only regret that I have about the first project is that I couldn't get more variety in the song. We had to make two songs for each project, each 16 measures long, but they had to have two 8 measures in each 16 measure. These 8 measures each had to be their own song. For the second project, we had to use on of the Drum Machines on Garage Band. I decided to use the classic drum machine. The drum machines work the same way that the regular drum sets do, they just look a lot different. In the drum machines, I could still do the merge recording and use two fingers to make a beat. In the second project, I still had to do two songs of 8 measures. For these projects, my standard was to see if I could go above and beyond, and I believe I that I did. I would like to get better at finding a beat in a drum set. I'm not to good at looking at an instrument and seeing what would go good together, and I would like to get better at that. I really enjoyed learning about the beats of a drum and I hope we do more things with the drums in garageband again.

In the THINGLINK PROJECT, The first thing we did was open thinglink. Then we were instructed to take a screenshot of a drum set on garage band and move that picture over to thinglink. Once we did that, we then named all of the parts of a drum. I had some trouble with that and I would really like to improve on remembering the parts of the drum. Then, we had to make instructional videos on the bass drum, the high hat, and the snare drum. These videos consisted of us stating and playing the tempo of playing of these three instruments. I kinda had some trouble making the correct tempo with all of these different instruments on the drum, but I completed the objective. If I was able to do this project again, I would have wanted to go over the tempo of the drums again if I had more time.

TRANSFORMING THE BLUESRecently, the music & the iPad class, did a project on the blues. We had a little introduction to it with Ms. Chase. She put a bunch of famous blues singers such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Bessie Smith on the TV and we reviewed them and talked about all of them and their songs. Then we went straight into the project. We were instructed to use a certain cord progression. Then we had to start on garage band with smart strings, smart guitar, or smart keyboard, find an autoplay, and record 12 bar blues using a different key than the one we had started with. We had to do all of this twice because we had to have two songs each of 12 measures. This project wasn't as hard as past garage band projects because I have more experience in that app now than I have had before. It was nice to do a blues project because I don't have much knowledge in the blues. But it was also a little bit frustrating because of the same lack of knowledge. For this assignment, my standards were to make something that sounded like the blues that I had heard, I'm not so sure I did that. I did what was asked of me, but it didn't sound like I thought it would, but maybe that's OK. Looking at the finished project, I would like to change the way the second blues song I made sounds, I think that it sounds too intense. Maybe that's OK, I'm not sure. I did enjoy this project and I enjoyed learning about the blues. I hope that we do another blues project.
DM1 Project
DM1 stands for drum machine 1 in the app world. It is an app that lays out any drum instrument that you want. All I had to do is highlight a button and it would play that instrument when the time came. I could also go to the Pads icon and play the drums on a pad with all of the different instruments at my finger tips and all I had to do was touch on them and they would play that instrument. I think that the pads part was my favorite part of DM1. There were also two more icons marked Mixer and FX. These were both ways to change the sound and how the sound came into my headphones. I think I liked it even more than the Garage band drums. The drum machine sounds better I think, and I think that the drum machine had a lot more options and things that you could do with a song than Garage Band drums did.

THUMBJAM PROJECT
Recently, our class did a brief project using the app Thumbjam. In this project we, using the app Thumbjam, made loops and after we had made one loop, we made another one, and so on and so on. By the end of the project, I had 5 different loops playing over each other. All of these loops used a different instrument. I had an electric, acoustic, and a bass guitar, flute, and a darabukka. I really liked using Thumbjam because it was incredibly easy to maneuver through. It was really simple, yet, it was easy to expand and do more than just play certain instruments by them self. I hope we use more of Thumbjam later in this class or incorporate it in other projects.
SYMPHONY PRO & NOTATEME NOW
Today, Ms. Chase introduced two new programs to us called Symphony Pro and NotateMe Now. These are two of the many notation apps that exist for IPad and other smart devices. All of class we went over different notation apps such as MuseScore, NotateMe Now, and Symphony Pro. I didn't really know what notation was until we started this. I learned that notation is actually the writing and the understanding of notes and music sheets. in symphony pro,

LOOPY PROJECT
Loopy HD is an app that loops over other things you have said or rapped or sang. Loopy plays things over other recordings to make a variety of loops over each others. Before I say what I don't like about this project, let me say what I like about it. I like how easy it was to record. All you had to do on loopy to record was to push on the middle of one of the circles and then it was recording! Also, I loved how accessible it was. It was so easy to do anything you had to do. Everything was right out there and if I thought of something to do, I could do it all by my self without any help, and I had no experience with loopy. I really liked that part of loopy. However, I was not a huge fan of the project that came along with the app. I consider myself a pretty outgoing person, but this might be a new level for me. It was a little uncomfortable for me to beat-box in from of my peers. When you add that with the fact that I really don't know how to beat-box and this project has help me realize that I am not good at it at all. And I think that I am OK with that. I couldn't get the timing down just right within the loops and it was hard for me to keep pace even with the metronome in the background.

MY FINAL PROJECT
It's hard to imagine I've come this far. It seems like just last week when I started my first project on Garage Band. But look at where we are now, making a 72 bar song that includes over 20 different instruments, kinda crazy. For this final project, we were given strict guidelines. All of these guidelines told us what the basics were for this project, and it was up to us to expound on it as much as we wanted or could. The guidelines stated how long the song had to be and what kind of content had to be in the song. Such as what kind of instruments had to be played and how many instruments had to be played in each section. After I had read all of the guidelines, I got to work. It took me about three weeks in total to get this project done. I think that this project took me so long because I gave it a little too much time in my head, in other words, I thought that it would be harder then it actually was so I procrastinated for the first class work period that we had to work on the project. However; when I got on a roll and really started working, I learned that when I dedicated myself to the task at hand, I could really get this thing done! I have learned a lot in this class throughout the past semester, and I had to use all of that knowledge in order to finish this project. And in using all of that knowledge, I am confident that I have created the best project that I have ever created in this class, and possibly, in all of this semester of classes. Thank you Ms. Chase for all that you have taught me this semester! See ya in Basic Guitar Ha Ha...
